The Top Honors Awards Program encourages and rewards exceptional accomplishments in the production of high school musical theatre. Private and public high school musical theatre program participants in the Bay Area are invited to compete in the “The Stage’s Top Honors Awards,” modeled after Broadway's Tony Awards, culminating in a Gala Ceremony with performances by the nominated high schools.
Recognition of outstanding achievement by students and educators will be awarded in performance, design, direction, choreography, technical production and overall production excellence.
The Top Honors Award Adjudicators (comprised of theatre professionals, performing artists, designers, and theatre arts educators) will fan out across the Bay Area between the end of January through April to evaluate the participating high schools’ musical theatre productions, followed by nomination recommendations. The Stage’s Top Honor Awards” Gala Ceremony, showcasing the nominated schools and students will be presented in June 2010.
Young Critics Program will focus on providing students, grades 9-12, with an opportunity to observe performances at The Stage, attend workshops to better understand and discuss the role of review/theatre critic and draft reviews for publication in school newspapers.
The Summer Musical Conservatory will offer professional training in advanced singing, acting and dance classes. The Conservatory curriculum strives to support high school theatre and music students’ vocational endeavors. Top Honors Award winners, featured in the Summer Musical session’s finale are eligible for Conservatory scholarships.
